The Marianas Baptist Academy saw 27 of its students take center stage in Friday night’s commencement exercise at the Multi-Purpose Center. They were recognized and honored for their efforts in pursuing academic excellence.

Of the 27, 11 were seniors who took the final step toward completing four years of high school and the first step toward another journey, while the other 16 were junior high school students who earned promotion to the high school level.

Prior to receiving their well-deserved diplomas, the parents, guests, and students were graced with a keynote address by Murphy Peterson, whose message was boiled down to just two words: “Be there.”

“Parents took you to MBA to register and told you to be there. Teachers gave you tasks and things to do…gave you lessons and taught you, and you were told to be there. The reason why you are here [last Friday night] is because you chose to be there. You were there, and you learned, and you grew,” he said.

Peterson’s address was followed by a stunning performance by Jamie Fejeran, who gave a monologue on child abuse.

The ceremony also honored valedictorian Mina Yu, and salutatorians Sandra Sang-Mi Lee and Dean Palacios, who were praised for consistently showing excellent academic performances. All three were awarded several minutes at the podium.

The ceremony also featured presentations of the Leadership Award, Service Awards, Speaker Awards, Principal’s List, A-Honor’s List, B-Honor’s List, and Citizenship Award.

Prior to the conclusion of the ceremony, the students performed their graduation song Lord Heal Our Land.
