Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale this weekend, as the Over The Reef Yacht Club will be sponsoring a learn-to-sail clinic this Sunday, May 30, behind the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach in Garapan.

This will be the first in a three-part series aimed at providing individuals interested in sailing with an opportunity to try their hand at the helm of a Hobie cat.

Students will receive a three-hour hands-on session with the high performance racing catamarans and will be taught by international competitor Dr. Tony Sterns.

Sterns has won several Laguna Regattas and competed in the Philippine Challenge and the Hobie World Championships.

Part 2 of the series will be a classroom session on June 3, with the location to be announced to those in attendance Sunday, May 30.

The third and final part of the series will be held Sunday, June 6. The second water session will also be held behind the Dai-Ichi at 9am.

“The classes will involve the theory as well as practice. It will be a comprehensive course and we welcome those in the public with all levels of experience—from those who have never been sailing to those with many years on the water,” said commodore of the yacht club, Ron Smith.

There will be a one-time registration fee of $10 that will cover the entire three-part series. Registration for the clinic will begin at 8:30am, with the actual instructional session to start at 9am.

For more information about the clinic, contact commodore Ron Smith by calling 235-5513 or visit the club website at www.otryc.org.
