GTC school wins new computer

The Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School earned a brand new computer after posting the most participants from CNMI schools in yesterday morning’s Mass Walk.

The GTC troop consisted of 44 students, 14 parents, eight teachers, and two staff members, besting 22 other schools with a total of 68 participants. The San Roque-based school students also performed a cheer during a ceremony after the walk at the American Memorial Park.

Posting the second-best participants was Kagman Elementary School with 39 walkers. A total of 16 students, 12 teachers, eight parents, and three staff members participated in the walk.

Finishing a close third was Oleai Elementary School with 35 participants—30 students and five parents—while Garapan Elementary School had 33 members—31 students and two parents.

Other schools posting walkers of over 20 were Hopwood Junior High School with 28 and San Antonio Elementary School with 25. HJHS numbers featured 13 students, seven parents, six teachers, and three staff members.

Other schools that were represented were Saipan Southern High School with 16, Saipan International School with 15, San Vicente Elementary School with 15, Cha Cha Ocean View Junior High School with 10, Mt. Carmel School with nine, Tanapag Elementary School with seven, Grace Christian Academy with seven, Calvary Christian Academy with six, Saipan Community School with five, William S. Reyes Elementary School with three, Dan Dan Elementary School with two, Kagman High School with two, Marianas High School with two, Tinian with two, Head Start program with two, Marianas Baptist Academy and Northern Marianas College with one apiece.

Organizers for the event—Council on Physical Fitness and Sports—arranged a school competition after receiving a donation of a computer set from Saipan Computer Services.
