ACT MEMBERSHIP MEETING TODAY
The Association of the Commonwealth Teachers will hold a general membership meeting at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library Conference Room today, May 19, at 7pm. Agenda will include election of new officers and the passage of the new retirement benefit law. Public school teachers are invited to attend.
BOOK FAIR SET AT MHS
The Marianas High School’s National Honor Society Chapter is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from May 18 to 21. The fair will be held on the MHS campus in room C103 (Distance Learning Room) during breaktime (10:05-10:30am), lunchtime (12:10-1:10pm) and after school (2:45-3:30pm).
Books from all reading levels will be on sale. Cash and major credit cards will be accepted (Discover, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express).
ASVAB EXAMS SET THIS WEEKEND
All individuals 17-34 years of age who want to be an Army of One are being urged to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB.
The U.S. Army Reserve Center will be administering the ASVAB on May 21, at 4pm and on May 22 at noon, both to be held at the U.S. Army Reserve Center. Interested people must bring a picture I.D. to process.
The U.S. Army Reserve will also be administering an ASVAB practice test on May 19, at NMC Career Center starting at 9am. This practice test is open to anyone interested.

RED CROSS ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
The Northern Marianas Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual membership meeting on Thursday, May 27, 2004, at 5:30pm, at the Chapter Office (234-3459) on Airport Road, San Vicente, Saipan. The purpose of the meeting is to hold elections for the voting members of its Board of Directors, review reports, Chapter Directors, and transact other business as it may come before the membership meeting.

PAGEANT POSTPONED
The officers and organizers of the 2004 Queen of the World Gay Pageant sponsored by the Visayas-Mindanao Association (VISMINDA), which is scheduled on May 15, at Hotel Nikko Saipan would like to extend their sincerest apologies to the public as the said event is temporarily put on hold until further notice.
For those who have already purchased tickets, please hold on to that and do not worry because it would still be honored later on.

PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES FAMILY LITERACY MONTH
In celebration of Family Literacy Month, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is informing the public that the Children’s Librarian will be having an evening story hour on Thursday, May 20, from 6pm-7pm.
MEMORIAL DAY MEETINGS SET
On May 31, 2004, Memorial Day, the CNMI will be paying tribute to fallen members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Office of the Military/Veterans Affairs would like to remind all concerned and interested that the Memorial Day Committee meetings will be held at its office on Capital Hill, Building #1364, every Wednesday at 10am. All are welcome.

OUTRIGGER RACING SERIES ONGOING
The Marianas Interscholastic Sports Association Outrigger Racing Series will continue every Saturday until May 29. The event is open to the public and will be a great opportunity for everyone to share in the culture and competition.
PHOTO CONTEST OPEN TO ALL NMI RESIDENTS
The Marianas Visitors Authority’s Tourism Month Photo Contest is now open to all CNMI residents.
In celebration of Tourism Month, the MVA encourages everyone to put their photography skills to the test for a chance to win cash prizes.
The categories for the contest are scenic, island events, and customs/culture. All photos must be of the CNMI. The entry fee is only $5 for each category and each participant is limited to two submissions per category. The prizes include $200 for first place, $150 for second place, and $125 for third place within each of the categories.
The deadline for submission is on May 31, 2004, which will give everyone the opportunity to showcase the events during Tourism Month. Entries must be submitted as 8×10 prints only. All entries will become the property of MVA. Entry forms are available at the MVA office in San Jose and the Tinian and Rota offices.
