On the eve of the May edition of the Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament, veteran international bowler Mark “The Shark” Halstead has racked up the most points in the Bowling Ranking System.

As of May 15, Halstead is on top of the 51-player BRS ranking list with a total of 418 points across his name.

He earned 45 points in the first King of the Lanes tournament in January, 100 points in the PBA Classified Tournament the following month, 40 points in the February edition of the Pepsi competition, another 80 points at the conclusion of the SBC Wednesday League, 55 points in the March Pepsi King of the Lanes, 80 points in the SBC Friday League, and another 18 points in last month’s King of the Lanes.

Former youth bowler and police officer Simon Manacop is currently running second in the BRS with 327 points.

Manacop had a great start for the year bagging the first-ever King of the Lanes tourney and got 100 points for it. He went on to earn 45 points in the Classified event, 20 points in both the February King of the Lanes and SBC Wednesday League, 2 points in the March Pepsi event, 75 points in the SBC Friday league and 45 points in the most recent King of the Lanes.

Paul Pangelinan started out slow before hitting his stride and is now just a few points behind Manacop in the BRS with 311 points, good enough for third place in the rankings.

Pangelinan opened up with 25 points in the inaugural King of the Lanes but then floundered with 10 and 16 points in the Classified and in the February edition of the Pepsi tournament. But he bounced back with 70 points in the SBC Wednesday League and 75-point efforts in both the March Kings of the Lanes and SBC Friday League before netting another 40 points in last month’s Pepsi competition.

The rest of the players in the top 10, with their corresponding scores in parenthesis, are as follows: Raymond Zapanta (299 points); Ador Dimaano (288 points); Dannie Robles (223 points); Ruselle Zapanta (212 points); Michael Guirey (184 points); Robert Talavera (175 points); and Jonathan Eparwa (170 points).

The top three in the women’s division are Diane Camacho, Emi Williams, and Rebecca Reyes.

Set up by the Saipan Bowling Association, the BRS determines who would qualify in the yearend 2004 Pepsi King of the Lanes Tournament.
