The new track and field facility at the Oleai Sports Complex had its baptism of fire last May 8 when schools from all over the CNMI competed in the 2004 All Schools Track and Field Championships.

In the team category, Dan Dan Elementary School, Hopwood Junior High, and Marianas High School blazed the trail topping their respective age groups. In the individual race, Ryan Baron of Whispering Palms School and Jovannie Sablan were named most outstanding athletes of the meet.

There was also a lot of basketball action last week. Toyota Ol’Aces I, for instance, successfully defended its BANMI Budweiser Cup crown after sweeping APC Brothers in the best-of-three finals.

Mobil co-ed league action, meanwhile, saw Dai-Ichi Hotel and Toyota advance to the final four after defeating Hyatt and CUC, respectively, last Tuesday.

In baseball, the Brewers handed winless D-9ers a humiliating 33-3 defeat in the Saipan Major League last Wednesday. The Coors Light Co-ed Beach Volleyball League also entered its second week with nine teams competing for this year’s coveted championship.
