Some 175 cadets combined from Kagman, Saipan Southern and Marianas high school JROTC joined the Department of Public Safety personnel and community members in paying tribute to fallen police officers.

The tribute began with a march from Mount Carmel Church to the DPS police officers’ monument and a brief ceremonial ritual consisting of a prayer led by the DPS Chaplain and candle lighting at the monument.

To make it to this special candlelight vigil, cadets from the three Saipan high schools had to quickly return home from school on Thursday afternoon, change into their cadet uniforms and were brought by their parents to assemble at the Mount Carmel Church for the march.

“The cadets from the three schools were glad to have participated and to be a part of this occasion to honor our committed and dedicated DPS police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in performing their very difficult and hazardous duties,” said CSM Doroteo Q. Aguigui in a statement.

Cadet leadership responsible for their respective battalion formation during the march was cadet Lt. Col. Zayna Matundan for the Ayuyu battalion; cadet Lt. Col. Carlo Bocago for the Manta Ray; and cadet Lt. Col. Normaine Pangelinan for the Dolphin.

Army instructors who provided the guidance for this special occasion were MSG Jim Burke and SFC John King for the Ayuyu battalion; SFC Richard Haugh for the Manta Ray; and SFC Pedro Gloria for the Dolphin.

Providing the logistical coordination and overall assistant for the assembly and march of the three battalions was SFC Celestin Damian, the CNMI MSU JROTC military property custodian.
