Off-island delegates will be joining local traditional and performing artists for the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival on April 20 to 22.

Performing groups Off Limitz from Rota and Man Atungo from Guam will also be part of the entertainment at the three-day event that will be held at the Civic Center Park in Susupe.

The festival committee also expecting a delegation from Chuuk, composed of two traditional artists and government officials.

“The success of the Flame Tree Arts Festival in the previous years has encouraged off-island delegates and representatives to accept our invitation to them and take part in the biggest arts event in our Commonwealth,” said Welcoming Committee chair Remy Buniag.

The delegates from Rota, Guam, and Chuuk will be paying for their own airfare and accommodations or through generous sponsors who have agreed to pay for their expenses, said overall festival committee chair Parker Y. Yobei.

The festival’s entertainment lineup also features local acts, including the Pua Hinano, Tiivi Mori Olomwaay Band, Tipiyeew Warriors, Alan Ia, Maluw Band, Island Warriors, and the Inatua Dancers.

Other festival regulars are also geared to showcase their talents: the Glushko’s Academy of Performing Arts, Rose Dance School, Umang Glee Club, and the Saipan Awaodori Team, which will perform with visiting Japanese Awaodori dancers.

The award-winning Manta Ray Band of Saipan Southern High School will serve as the opening act during the opening ceremony on April 21, the second day of the festival.

Arts Council executive director Angel S. Hocog encouraged the community to join the festival committee in welcoming the off-island guests for the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival by demonstrating warm island hospitality during their stay.

“We hope that the public will enjoy our entertainment lineup and delight in the wide selection of works of art from traditional and contemporary artists in the Pacific,” added Hocog.
