The Department of Public Works is informing the public that it will activate the traffic signal in the San Vicente/Dandan intersection on Friday, Dec. 2.

DPW officials and staff were at the site yesterday to test all the lights in the three-way traffic signal and ensure that everything is fully functional to facilitate traffic flow in the area and for the safety of motorists passing by.

“We want to activate it because it’s a critical section due to the nearby schools and church in that area,” highway administrator Sonya Pangelinan-Dancoe told Saipan Tribune.

The traffic signal is part of the first phase of a large road construction project in the area. The project is fully funded by the Federal Highway Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation.

A ribbon cutting ceremony that would mark the functioning traffic signal is slated next week.

While the project still has many components that remain to be completed, DPW Secretary Martin C. Sablan noted that having the traffic signal up and running is a welcome development.

“We’re glad we’re coming down to the end. Although there’s still a lot to be done, we’re working just fine,” said Sablan.
