(Walter Cepeda Sutherland)  Natibu Sports Association Tanapag Braves survived a last inning rally by the Bank of Saipan Red Sox, 9-8, as the Major Division of the 2012 Saipan Little League continued last Sunday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.

In other Major Division results, IT&E Ol’Aces defeated McDonald’s, 13-7, and the first place Rep. Joseph P. Guerrero Dandan Comets blazed past the Pacific Amusement Rays, 10-0, on Saturday.

On Sunday, the DPS Dare Program JPO Enforcers downed As Matuis Twins, 12-1, and the Natibu Tanapag Falcons pelted IT&E, 15-1.

Braves 9, Red Sox 8

The Red Sox spurted ahead, 3-0, in the second inning off a pair of doubles by Chabo Leon Guerrero and Ryan Aguon mixed in with a walk and a two fielders choices.

The Braves’ thick of the order knotted the score at 3-all in the bottom of the third inning with three base smashes, two runs scored off misreads in the outfield, and Brandon Pua stole home.

Red Sox’s Piling Terlaje reached on a single and scored off wild pitch in the top half of the fourth, but the Braves responded with three runs in the bottom frame off four hits. Jeremy Ngiraked bagged an RBI single.

The Red Sox left its leadoff man at third base to start the fifth and the Braves added its last three runs in the bottom frame before fending off a four-run comeback attempt in the final stand to escape with the win.

Ol’Aces 13, McDonald’s 7

Ol’Aces broke the ice, 2-0, in the first inning when Jimmy Kaipat busted an RBI double and was later brought home off a sacrifice fly by Virgil Secharmidal.

Secharmidal left the yard for a solo lap in the third inning and ripped an RBI triple to start a five-run tear in the fourth. Glenn Calvo bagged an RBI single in the mix.

Ol’Aces’ Kaipat pulled around on another RBI base hit in the top of the fifth for a 9-0 margin, which they needed as McDonald’s rallied back with all seven of its runs in the bottom frame primarily enabled by a defensive meltdown by the Ol’Aces.

They latter would recover, however, and added four runs in the top of the sixth and secured the victory.

Ol’Aces pitcher Kimo Angailen gave up just three hits with a walk, a bean ball, and nine strikeouts in 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Secharmidal batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run

Comets 10, Rays 0

The Comets shot in front, 5-0, in the first inning off a trio of doubles by Aurel Mendiola, Rejay Iskawa (two RBIs), and Austin Hocog (two RBIs). The other runs were gifted by three walks and errors.

The Rays tightened up a little on defense after the sketchy start, but struggled at the plate against Comets hurler Ethan Babauta.

As the Comets added a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings, Babauta stood tall on the mound and secured a one-hit shutout through four frames. Rays’ Jay Kalen broke up the no-no in the opening frame, however Babauta held him at third base and finished the game with a walk and four strikeouts.

Enforcers 12, Twins 1

The Enforcers trudged ahead, 6-0, in the first inning off five hits including back-to-back home runs by Kier Agda (two runs) and Shakobe Rangamar (one run). Joaquin Saralu also bagged an RBI single.

Enforcers’ Agda later hammered another two-run shot over the fence in the second inning and his teammates added four more runs in the third before clocking out two frames early. Saralu bagged another RBIs single in the bottom of the third. The Twins’ lone run came from a solo blast by Richard Atalig in the second inning.

It was the only hit allowed by Enforcers pitcher Agda, who issued one walk and struck out five in four innings.

Agda batted 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Saralu swung 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs.

Falcons 15, IT&E 1

Falcons’ Kekuni Kainoa belted an RBIs single to help build an early 2-0 lead in the opening frame and his team gashed IT&E with 13 runs in the second inning off an RBI walk, an RBI single by Ace Evangelista, followed by a grand slam from Benen Iguel. The other runs came off errors and a two-RBI double by Evangelista in his second plate appearance.

IT&E’s Matt Kapileo stepped to the rubber in the fourth inning and struck out the side, but the damage was already done as IT&E left a runner stranded at first base in the finals stand.

Falcons’ Jose Pangelinan gave up an earned run off four hits and a walk with six strikeouts through four frames.
