XTERRA winners, Settsu players top list

Winners in the 2012 XTERRA Saipan Championship and the 4th Annual Settsu-Saipan Friendship Basketball Tournament were among last week’s top performers.
Switzerland’s Renata Bucher and Australia’s Ben Allen took the women’s and men’s pro crowns in XTERRA Saipan, while Saipan’s Lewie Tenorio, Brian Morris, Dawn Hammermeister, Eileen Escudero, Kaisei Toda, and Robyn Wondrasek ruled their respective age groups. In the relays, Saipan’s Bob Ferrer, John Jenkins, and Kento Akimaru reigned supreme in XTERRA Sport, while Victoria Chentsova, Russ Quinn, and Yosh Gabaldon prevailed in the XTERRA Championship course.
In the annual Settsu-Saipan caging at the Marianas High School Gymnasium, the MISO All-Stars claimed the boys’ division crown after beating Kagman High School in the finals, 90-58, while the visiting Settsu cagebelles won over the MHS Lady Dolphins, 69-38.
The boys champion team was composed of Tinian High School’s Marc Babauta, Darius Pettis, and Develle Maui, Saipan Southern High School’s Bryl Alegre, Jack Aranda, Jaymark DeGuzman, Christian Mizer, Nevin Salem, and Jimmy Tudela, and MHS’ Ezra Caro, Erick Dela Rosa, and Ralph Francisco.
Playing for the newly crowned Settsu team were Kyosuke Hidari, Yusuki Hirata, Akiro Miyaura, Reo Moriyama, Ken Saguchi, Yuji Tanaka, and Masaya Ueda.
Meanwhile, other competitions on Saipan continued last week.
The Saipan Little League Baseball had its regular season games with McDonald’s finally making it to the win column of the Majors division. In the Big, Senior, and Junior divisions, the Ol’Aces kept their winning runs.
Still in baseball, the Saipan Major League opened its 2012 season with the Angels drawing first blood against the Brewers.
In football, Matansa, Wild Bill’s, and Tan Holdings, won their respective games in the men’s league; Shirley’s, Paire, and Independents prevailed in the women’s league; Shirley’s and Paire won in the girls U15; MP United Silver, Matansa, and Shirley’s prevailed in the boys U15; and Tan Holdings and MP United triumphed in the boys U18.
In basketball, the DLX/Miller Lite caging completed its regular season games last week with eight teams advancing to the next round.
