Ben Jones Sr. was declared the Amigos Golf Club Association’s Ace of the Month for March after the conclusion of the group’s second and final round held last Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.
Jones Sr. started out tied for second place with his son Ben Jones Jr. and Joe Sablan Jr. during the qualifying round held last March 11 also at Kingfisher.
After the handicap adjustments the trio finished with 69 net scores, two strokes behind early leader Doll Yamagishi.
Jones Sr. improved his game by four strokes on Sunday, finishing his second round with a raw total of 79 that worked into a 65 net tally for a field-low combined net count of 134.
Frank Sablan posted a 76 net card in the qualifier and stepped up his game on Sunday with a 68 net score to tie Lorraine Babauta and Larry Hocog with matching combined net totals of 144.
Babauta qualified with a net-77 and scratched a 67 net score on Sunday, while Hocog started out with a 74 and turned in an even 70-net card in the second round.
Notably, Yamagishi and Sablan Jr. both finished in second place after Sunday’s round with combined net scores of 140, but excused themselves from the running for already being hailed as ace golfers in previous months.
Other notables include Felix Sasamoto’s 146 (72/74), Frank Guerrero (73/76) and Diding Hocog’s 149 (74/75), and John Matsumoto’s 153 (78/75). A total of 12 golfers participated in both events.
