Suspects charged in rifle theft
Three young males have been charged in the alleged theft last February of a .223 caliber rifle owned by a Dandan resident.
The Attorney General’s Office charged defendants Jay Muña, 18, Frankie Sablan Rran Jr., 20, and Shuji Takanobu, 19, with illegal carrying of a firearm, among other charges, in connection with the disappearance of Roy Hussey’s Ruger Mini 14 rifle last February 28, 2002.
The three allegedly possessed the firearm without a valid identification card issued by the CNMI, according to Assistant Attorney General Aaron J. Romano.
Court documents filed at the Superior Court further alleged that the three suspects conspired to obliterate the serial number of the firearm.
In a criminal complaint, Romano stated that Dandan Homestead residents Muña and Rran broke into Hussey’s house and stole items, such as jewelry, electronic devices, ukulele, and coins, in addition to the firearm.
Muña and Rran have been slapped with burglary, theft by unlawful taking and conspiracy charges.
Both, including Takanobu, have also been charged with receiving stolen property.
Further, Rran and Takanobu were specifically leveled with two counts of illegal transfer or sale of ammunition in that the former allegedly transferred ammunition to the latter without being a licensed dealer as required by the Weapons Control Act.
The three defendants have been summoned to make a court appearance on May 27, 2002 at 9am, with respect to the charges.
A police report released earlier revealed that Hussey’s house was burglarized and that an $800-rifle was stolen.
Other items reported missing were assorted pieces of jewelry amounting to $1,000, state coins totaled at $15 and a brown ukulele that cost $600.
