Lions Club hosts free health fair tomorrow

Members of the Lions Club International District 204 Region 2 will be hosting a health fair on Sunday, March 25, at the Civic Center in Susupe from 8am to noon.
Region 2 is composed of the Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club, Saipan Marianas Lions Club, and Saipan Unity Lions Club. They will be providing free services at the event: eye checkup and eyeglasses, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, consultative medical information, and other medical services.
Health fair committee’s Paul Madriaga on Thursday said the local health providers that will take part in the health fair include the Saipan Seventh-Day Adventist Clinic, the Northern Marianas College Nursing Club, Hardt Eye Clinic, volunteers from the Commonwealth Health Center, and Dr. Esther Kanayjorn.
Madriaga said they are expecting Guam Lions to arrive and assist during the event. Among them are Guam Asia Pacific Lions Club district governor Rey Acierto, district treasurer Tony Soriano, Guam Galaide Lions Club district administrator Zeny Cachila, Guam Marianas Lions Club officers led by president Joe Besagar and past district governor Celso Gianchand, and other past district governors and officers.
Visiting Lions from Guam will be providing hearing and eye testing equipment and technicians, prescription glasses, and cancer awareness brochures.
Madriaga also said that anti-flu shots will be administered at the event by the Public Health immunization program.
Non-profit organizations Nurturing Transformative & Sustainable Communities or NUTESE led by Keiko Odashiro and the CNMI Diabetes Coalition headed by John Gonzales will also set up booths at the health fair.
Donations for used/old eyeglasses to be refurbished will also be accepted for distribution, added Madriaga.
Madriaga and Lion Olive Yana urged the public to take advantage of Sunday’s health fair.
“Bring your friends and take advantage of this rare medical opportunity. Medical practitioners from Guam and Saipan will be happy to serve all of you for free,” added Yana.
