CNMI Anthem

My daughter, who speaks fluent German, told me a few days ago that the melody of the CNMI Anthem is very similar to a German folk music called Im Schoensten Wisengrude. In fact it is and if you Google this music, one would find several versions of it in German.

She translated this music to English and it turns out that there is close meaning of the lyrics to the CNMI Anthem. This song is called:

“In the most beautiful meadow valley”

In the most beautiful valley
there is my home.
I went there many times.
I greet thee my beautiful
and quite valley a thousand times!
I went there many times.

If I had to leave this valley
and its delight and tone,
this would be my last journey.
I greet thee a thousand times my quiet valley.

If I die I want to be buried in this valley.
Then people shall sing in the evening’s sunset:
I greet thee my valley for the last time.

I thought your readers would be interested in this, so that they would have an idea how our CNMI Anthem evolved over the years.
