Outrigger canoe training

The Micronesian Outrigger Canoe Association of Saipan is looking for boys and girls ages 8-18 who want to learn and train in the outrigger canoe. Training will take place at several locations on the Garapan Lagoon from March 19 to April 27. Outrigger race competition will highlight the training.

Registration begins on March 16, and continues through March 23. Youth participants must have the signed approval of their parents or guardians. MOCA trainers and coaches are available at the following locations each afternoon at 4:30 for registration:

Todd Sanvold- San Roque Elementary School

Larry Babauta- Tanapag Elementary School

Ray Tebuteb- Carolinian Utt Garapan

Eddie Johnson- Diamond Hotel Beach Office

Vince Seman- Oleai Beach

Saipan Youth Football League election

Saipan Youth Football League is gearing up for its 8th year of exciting youth football by holding elections for the 2001 SYFL Board of Directors. Nominations for Board of Director’s President, Commissioner, Secretary, and Treasurer, are now open and the elections will be held on March 21, 7pm at Halina’s Kitchen in San Antonio.

Anyone who would like to participate in this outstanding youth-oriented sport’s organization as a member of our board of directors, is asked to contact Karl Reyes at 234-7937 or Joseph Palacios at 234-2018 or 2019 for more information.

In addition, SYFL is looking for interested individuals who would like to assist as officials or as coaches and assistant coaches for the Pee Wee (9 to 11 years old), Midget (12 to 14 years old) and Bantam (15 to 17 years old) teams during our 2001 youth football season. SCS 5K Fun Run

Saipan Community School is having it’s Annual 5K Fun Run race on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the American Memorial Park. The school is currently having the pre-registration and will continue to do so until the day of the race. Registration on the day the race begins at 6am. Race begins at 6:30am. Registration fee is $10. Proceeds of the race benefit the school’s classrooms.
