Criminal Investigation Bureau officers who conducted a simple curfew enforcement operation late Wednesday night ended up busting a Palauan-Filipino national for illegal drug raps, police said.

Authorities started forming suspicions when 22-year-old Vernon Rivera, while riding his bicycle along the Chalan Kanoa district, pedaled his bike to a high speed despite a signal made by police for him to stop.

But investigators eventually caught up with the suspect.

When searched, Mr. Rivera was found in possession of several Ziplock clear plastic bags containing controlled substances. A pair of syringes were also discovered inside the plastic pouches.

Police were able to identify the substances as metamphetamine.

Mr. Vernon, as authorities later found out, has been charged of possession of illegal drugs numerous times before.

He was brought to the CIB office for further questioning. (MM)
