School bus driver accused of attacking child
A Public School System bus driver is facing police probe on allegations that he laid a hand on a Hopwood Junior High School student after school hours Wednesday afternoon.
The 13-year-old Chamorro boy told police he was stepping inside the pupil transportation service that would take him home at around 3pm when the 41-year-old bus operator grabbed him on the ribcage area and pushed him backwards.
Police noted the boy sustained red marks near the stomach portion, where he was reportedly assaulted.
A number of witnesses standing by at the time of the incident confirmed the victim’s complaints, police said.
Students after school closed Wednesday were apparently lining up to get into the bus when the driver instructed them to make way for girl passengers first, according to police interview with the victim.
When it was the boys’ turn to take their seats inside the vehicle, the victim noted he was second one in line when the bus driver allegedly lunged at him, from out of nowhere.
The victim fell backwards but students following him apparently caught him from landing on the ground.
Police records also stated that the suspect was cussing profanity at the student.
When the boy proceeded to sit on one of the benches, the driver reportedly came up to him and confronted him.
Frightened, the boy reportedly just sat there, clueless as to what was going on.
Shortly, the minor reportedly ran away, altogether skipping his bus ride. He instead walked all the way to his mother’s workplace at Michigan’s Garment in San Antonio to seek refuge.
After hearing her son’s story, the mother called for police assistance, requesting that authorities investigate the bus driver.
For evidence purposes, police took photos of the injuries the child reportedly sustained as a result of the alleged attack.
