Domestic violence ends up in court
A suspected assault and battery incident between a jealous man and his girlfriend is pending before the local courts for action.
In a complaint filed before the Superior Court, a domestic quarrel broke last March 11 inside a house in San Vicente, which was reportedly provoked by the boyfriend’s suspicion of his girlfriend’s alleged philandering activities with his own brother.
Court documents reveal that defendant Pehn Delen Sotam allegedly acted violently towards the victim, after he accused her of having sexual relations with his sibling.
Mr. Sotam apparently expressed his rage by choking the woman, when he found her talking with his brother inside their house that Sunday.
But the brother, who acted as a witness, told police the victim approached him only to tell inform him of the “stupid” accusations the defendant had over their alleged affair.
When the suspect caught them exchanging words, he apparently got jealous and started choking his girlfriend, the witness said.
Court records state that the woman flagged down a police officer for assistance right after the incident. Police had noted that she was crying and had a bruise on the left side of her neck.
According to a police interview with the victim, the incident started when Mr. Sotam called her home from work while she was at the bathroom. On the phone, the suspect was persistently asking the victim if she was still having an affair with his brother.
The lady claimed she answered no when the suspect immediately hang up the phone. She called him at his workplace later that day to make some clarification about their ambiguous phone conversation earlier.
When her boyfriend got home that evening, it was then that he resumed hurling accusations at her. The defendant was arrested for assault and battery charges. A $1,000 cash bail has been recommended for this temporary release. (MM)
