Tourists lost $10K in Garapan robbery
Authorities have started to dig deeper into a robbery incident where a pair of Japanese tourists reportedly lost $10,000 worth of valuables and cash, plus travel insurance documents.
According to police reports, Japanese nationals Jun and Kiyome Koike were walking away from the GIG Disco Club towards the 123 Discount Store at around 1am yesterday when Mr. Kioke’s Louis Vuitton bag-full of valuables was allegedly snatched by an unidentified suspect.
The robbery reportedly occurred at the lower MIHA housing area across the Payless Shoe Source where the nauseated male tourist claimed to have retched for a moment.
Prior to the unfortunate incident, Mr. Kioke had instructed his wife to wait for him at the area in front of the shoe store as he crossed the street to vomit. He had tucked his bag under his left armpit when an alleged suspect came from behind him and kicked his bottom.
Catching the victim off-guard, the suspect reportedly succeeded in grabbing the bag and immediately fled the scene towards the housing subdivision.
The victim claimed he tried to chase the robber but lost sight of him. He reportedly suffered minor scrapings on his upper arm and right knee cap.
Victims claimed that inside the LV bag were one black LV wallet valued at $600, one black LV case worth $1,500, a set of wedding ring, and gold necklace valued at $1,200, one gold silver Rolex worth $7,000, $800 cash in US currency, and 50,000 Japanese yen.
The listed items plus the $1,400 LV bag itself totals to $10,000 in overall losses.
Police are still conducting an investigation of the case.
