A Saipan resident has done it again.

Leonard “Butch” Wolf, who won a 1990 Academy Award for the “Best Sound Editing” team for “The Hunt for Red October,” has been nominated for “Best Sound Editing” for the recent film release, “Space Cowboys,” starring Clint Eastwood, James Garner and Tommy Lee Jones.

Mr. Wolf, who owns “TalkStory Productions” on Saipan, along with other entertainment ventures, spends part of his time being called back to Hollywood to work on major productions, like “Space Cowboys.”

He feels very honored to be nominated again, and says the nomination is the product of hard-working professionalism of a highly-regarded editing team, led by Alan R. Murray and Bob Asman.

Saipan’s growing film and TV industry here has been a positive economic sign for a depressed economy, and having an Academy Award winning participant right here is a major plus for Saipan’s reputation for being an Asian-Pacific center for film & TV production.

Recently, the CNMI public lands office released figures that film and TV productions are the biggest users of public land for commercial ventures.

Mr. Wolf mentions the definite need for locally-trained personnel to be a part of this exciting industry, and part of his goal on Saipan is to train local talent for film & TV productions.

TalkStory itself has been involved in a large volume of recent film & TV work, including Verizon and Saipan Noni commercials, “Live Sports Talk at Lens II,” Make-A-Wish Foundation, filming for successful corporations like L & T Enterprises, and other projects.

CNMI local leaders have been urged to support this industry for the sake of the CNMI’s socio-economic future.
