DJ slams gun-totting cop
A local radio broadcaster contemplated yesterday of pressing charges against a Department of Public Safety officer for allegedly pulling a gun on him, merely for violating the Beach Road 35 miles per hour speed limit.
Hot 98 disc jockey Monty Engis expressed indignation over the incident which occurred early Thursday morning when he was traveling northbound on his way to work.
Rushing to get to the Hot 98 station to fix some technical glitches, Mr. Engis, widely-known around the islands as “Full Monty,” admitted he was probably running at 62 mph, as the officer cited.
“But he pulled a gun on me for a minor traffic infraction. I posed no threat to motorists at that time. When I pulled over and rolled my window down, I found myself literally staring at the barrel of his gun which was maybe two inches away from my head,” said Mr. Engis in an interview.
The radio personality identified the officer as Sgt. Sylvan Rangamar. The policeman reportedly chased Mr. Engis for overspeeding on his motorcycle.
According to Mr. Engis, the officer apparently had the notion that he was trying to flee from him.
DPS spokesperson Cecil Celes declined to comment on the pending case which has now been forwarded to Internal Affairs Office.
Ms. Celes said DPS will issue an official statement after the issue is duly addressed by proper authorities.
After consulting with his lawyer, the FM radio DJ disclosed he may not push forward with the charges and will leave it up to Internal Affairs to bring justice to the predicament he suffered. (MM)
