Torres lauds BOE for Anatahan school

Rep. William S. Torres commended the State Board of Education and the Public School System for upbeat efforts in pushing for the construction of the Anatahan school in the Northern Islands.

In a letter addressed to BOE Capital Improvement Projects Chair Roman C. Benavente, the legislator thanked the public education sector for “making the dreams of the students from Anatahan a reality” through this landmark project on the remote island.

The establishment of a one-story structure to accommodate some 20 students is a part of PSS’ 10-year CIP blueprint.

“It is an undisputed tenet that education begins at home. Home for these indigenous people and residents of the Northern Islands where their ancestors had settled for many generations before us,” said Mr. Torres.

He added that it is about time that moves are made to assist Northern Islands residents resettle back to the their homeland, after their forefathers unfortunately displaced for reasons brought about by nature and man.

The proposed two-classroom facility is envisioned to cater to elementary and high school students.

It will also have room for a support building for the administration office and cafetorium. (MM)
