Organizers of the 2012 UFO Inter-Organization Basketball Friendship League are aiming to open shop on April 15.
Games will be held both at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai and at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe. Games at Gillette will be played every Tuesday and Thursday, while Sunday’s matches are set in Susupe.
This year’s UFO caging will have a new division-the U15 category. The rest of the competition is for the 40-and-above age group, 20 to 39, and 16 to 20.
Ali’i Konflikt won last season’s 20 to 39 age group for its back-to-back championship. The Norman Del Rosario-coached squad stunned the then undefeated Proa, which was bannered by members of the CNMI National Team. Ali’i Konflikt won the winner-take-all finals, 94-79.
In the 40-and-above division (masters), MDX/Armatech prevailed over 2010 champion Cabalen/Wings Travel, 84-79, while the Jets ruled the 16 to 20 division, downing Filcag Rollers in the finals, 86-8.
UFO president Bong Malasarte said they are hoping to get at least eight teams for the 20 to 39 age group and six each in the three other divisions.
Malasarte added that two games will be played on weekdays at Gillette, while matches in Susupe are scheduled for the whole day every Sunday.
Interested teams and their representatives are requested to attend a meeting on March 20. Important details about the opening of the league and competition rules will be discussed at the 6pm meeting at the Civic Center pavilion.
