Kagman center turned over to CNMI

The Commonwealth Development Authority formally turnover the Kagman Community Center to the CNMI government, a project funded under the Community Development Block Program of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio Friday.
The Kagman Community Center is a modern facility equipped with theater and meeting halls, office spaces, a kitchen, paved parking lot, and a basketball court, said CDA Board Chair John S. Tenorio.
The facility’s theater hall has a lift for the wheelchair-bound individuals. Both the theater and the meeting halls have modern acoustical ceiling that helps minimize background noise.
The meeting hall may be split into two smaller sections with a sound-proof folding divider. This early, interested parties have already started inquiring about the availability of the halls for meetings and other functions such as youth activities.
Design of the community center allows for mass feeding of displaced families or individuals, while a pavilion and a barbecue pit are located behind the facility.
Mr. Tenorio said the Department of Public Safety also holds a satellite office at the center. The DPS satellite office operates a neighborhood watch program and a youth program aimed at preventing juvenile delinquency.
He said the presence of DPS personnel in the area is a relief for the residents of Kagman I, II and III as it ensures peace and order within the community. “With their presence in the vicinity, Kagman residents could get a quicker response to an emergency call.”
EFC Architect and Engineers designed the facility, which includes energy efficiency and modern paint systems. The facility will be turned over by the contractor to the government soon after the completion of some punch list items.
Mr. Tenorio said the facility is the first public building completed for the largest residential subdivision in the entire Northern Marianas. (ARF)
