Sablan quits as MVA board chair
Marianas Visitors Authority Board Chair Dave M. Sablan has resigned from his post yesterday to give way to a new leadership at the tourism agency.
The MVA board of directors will hold an election next week to choose the new chair. In the meantime, Board Secretary Julian Calvo will serve as acting board chair.
“I am giving the board members the opportunity to choose the new leader. I really hope MVA will continue to prosper and the industry will be able to recover from the economic slump,” Mr. Sablan said.
The resignation of Mr. Sablan came in the wake of a Senate’s decision to reduce the budget of MVA from $6 million to $4.9 million for FY 2001 by giving the rest of the money to Rota and Tinian and paving the way for the establishment of separate MVA offices.
Mr. Sablan has earlier signified his intention to step down as board chair when four elected members of the nine-man board took office late June of this year.
The board of directors, however, appealed for him to stay in view of the ongoing projects of the tousim agency.
Other members of the board are Marian Aldan-Pierce, Frances LG. Borja, JM Guerrero, Wendi Herring, Roberta Guerrero and Vicente H. Borja. (LFR)
