In the first game of Rocball’s 18th annual season, the Flyers played a tough come from behind game to defeat the Ghasias Brothers in two sets 26 to 24. Jennifer Somol of the Flyers was the games heavy hitter. Jennifer scored 2 aces, 1 xunk, 2 kees, and 1 goal for a total of 18 points.

In the first set, the Ghasias Brothers defeated the Flyers 20 to 17 in a very long tough played match set. The Ghasias Brothers took an early lead off the Flyers first serve by scoring a kee, a two-point back court score and never fell behind. Even though the Flyer’s were very far behind and managed to tie the score twice at 10 to 10 and 14 to 14, they didn’t have enough offense to take the lead.

In the second set, the Flyers trailing by three points. The Flyers had first serve to start the second set and xunked the Ghasias Brothers in the whole for two points. The Flyers scored a goal in volley off the second serve and drove the Ghasias Brothers another three points deeper in subzero. With the first two serves of the second set, the Flyers had five point lead without having tallied a point for themselves. The Ghasias Brothers were able to recover and score up to four points solid before time ran out. But, it was to little to late. Because, in the second set, the Flyers scored nine points, which was enough to make up to difference of their first set loss and win the game by a margin of two points.

This year’s Rocball season will be played with the three game elimination rule. When a team loses three games, they are out for the rest of year. The last four teams of each division will play the semi-finals and Championship games by “juice” rules with no time limit. And, all Rocball games are played at Marianas High School at 12:30 p.m.
