MVA to step up marketing campaign
With the resumption of Nagoya-Saipan daily direct flights by Continental Micronesia next year, the Marianas Visitors Authority will carry out an aggressive marketing campaign which will complement the airline’s efforts in promoting the CNMI in Japan.
Acting Managing Director Vicky Benavente has said MVA will focus its efforts in creating awareness about the CNMI as an ideal destination in the Pacific.
Ms. Benavente said the Northern Marianas will be promoted through fliers, brochures, newspapers and magazines. MVA will continue to hold familiarization tours for different media outlets and seminar for travel agents.
“We’re very excited and we’re looking forward to working with Continental Micronesia to develop the destination fliers and brochures which will promote the entire Marianas,” she said.
House Speaker Ben Fitial has pledged to support MVA in providing funds for its marketing campaign to help revive the island’s declining tourism economy. Ms. Benavente said MVA may have to ask for an increase in its promotional budget this fiscal year if the need arises.
Continental Micronesia president Bill Meehan said he hopes officials will continue to keep the island clean and beautiful as well as improve the tourist sites on the island to attract more tourists.
Continental Micronesia has been a partner of the CNMI in promoting the islands for the past 30 years. However, the financial crisis in Asia which has adversely affected foreign travel, forced the airline to cut back its flights from major Asian cities to CNMI.
The airline’s announcement resuming direct service to Japan was a welcome news since the Northern Marianas tourism economy has not shown any significant improvement for the past three years.
Continental Micronesia will also resume its Osaka-Saipan direct service early next year due to improvements in market demand. (LFR)
