Woman in drug raps arrested
A Saipan woman was arrested yesterday after the federal government filed drug charges in the U.S. District Court in connection with a quarter of a gram of crystal methampetamine or “ice” seized from her by authorities.
Patricia V. Aldan, 31, of Dandan, is facing four counts in the criminal case, two counts each for distributing the illicit drug and possession with intent to distribute.
She is being detained by the authorities following a warrant of arrest issued the other day by District Judge Alex R. Munson who set no bail for her release from jail.
Based on the complaint filed by the District Attorney’s Office, Ms. Aldan was caught in undercover operation conducted by the joint task force of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and CNMI government in two separate incidents last year.
On July 28 and 29, of last year, the task force met with a cooperating source who revealed that the defendant was in possession of “ice” who then offered to sell the unnamed individual $200 worth of the substance, according to the affidavit submitted by DEA/CNMI Task Force agent Raymond Renguul.
He said the task force immediately conducted and recorded through an undercover agent the purchase of “ice” weighing about .12 gram from Ms. Aldan.
The drugs taken from her was field tested with the narcotics field test kit and the result was presumptive positive for methampetamine, said Mr. Renguul.
Then on Dec. 9, 1999, a cooperating source again told the task force Ms. Aldan advised the unnamed individual that she had at least $200 worth of “ice” to sell if the source was interested, he said.
The “ice” weighing about .13 gram was tested and proved positive for methampetamine, the agent added. (BS)
