Wild vines growing on hanging cables by the islands’ lone television cable company have drawn attention from one of the lawmakers who said such condition could be dangerous to residents.

Rep. Stanley T. Torres urged the Marianas Cable Vision and the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. to take necessary trimming to prevent any untoward incident.

He said he is “confused” to see CUC crew pruning tree branches that get in contact with power poles and lines without bothering to cut vines hanging on MCV cable.

Noting the cable company pays fees for use of the CUC poles for its cables, the Saipan representative said shearing the vines should be included in the maintenance work.

“Ironically, leaving the wild vines hanging still poses potential danger to the two power poles to snap in two,” Mr. Torres wrote to Joe Butter, MCV general manager.

“I am sorry to say that the vines are not only ugly on your cables, it is also a disgrace to both CUC and MCV, and by keeping them hanging, it tells a lot about both parties’. . . ability on a standing maintenance and performances,” he added.
