Island boys doing well
Two sons of Emeterio and Rita Saures, currently living in Virginia, are making it big time in their respective baseball leagues. Seventeen-year-old Canicio Saures has been playing baseball since Little League, and is now one of the Babe Ruth All Stars for District IV who played in the State Tournament. He was the only player from their National level selected to the All American All Star team. He is primarily a second baseman but is also a backup outfielder and catcher.
When not playing baseball, which is most of the year, he plays Center and Cornerback for George C. Marshall High School Jr. Varsity Football team.
His younger brother Emmett Saures, 14, is also playing on his age group Babe Ruth All Stars as a pitcher, and took his team into the State Tournament winning the runnerup title. Emmett also plays shortstop and led his team in batting and stolen bases, and is an excellent base runner. Emmett is a sophomore at George Marshall High School and received this year’s 2000 JV Baseball Best All Around Freshman Award.
In some games the brothers have been the teams battery, with Emmett pitching and Canicio the catcher. Both want to play college baseball. They’re also playing year round ball either with their Parks and Recreation team, high school, or their Babe Ruth team, except when Canicio is playing football.
The Saures’ have two younger children, Alexander and Evangeline, are also playing Little League Baseball. Alexander is playing on the same Little League team his brothers played for and so far is the only person to hit an out of the park Home Run on that field.
From the island of Tinian, young Henry Cing Taylor, son of Flora Cing, while living in Washington, is participating on the Fort Lewis Youth Track Club. Recently he qualified in Athletics for the Junior Olympics in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and the Long Jump, held later this summer in Buffalo, New York.
