DFS employee detained for stealing money

An employee of DFS was arrested and detained in the Division of Corrections after she was allegedly caught stealing money from the cash register, according to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Rose Ada.

Investigation showed that Marcelina B. Edwards, 34, was caught taking $51 on July 3, 2000. DFS did not immediately file a complaint and conducted instead its own investigation which reportedly showed that the suspect has taken some $3,000 since last year.

Fire hits Sun Palace Hotel

A fire broke out in one of the rooms in Sun Palace Hotel Sunday evening apparently due to faulty electrical wiring. No one was reported injured.

Police reports showed that guests at Room 219 complained to the hotel owner, Shirley Kim, that they saw sparks from the air conditioning unit in the room. This prompted the hotel management to transfer the guests to another room immediately.

But later on heavy smoke was later seen coming out of Room 219, forcing the hotel staff to turn off the power on one side of the building.

Minutes later, fire fighters arrived on the scene and contained the fire.
