The hate campaign vs. Fitial and Teno`

Over the last year, it seems obvious the “other” local paper has taken on an agenda against the administration and the House leadership. It has been unable to police itself, thus an agenda laden with vengeance or fits of frustration. Thus, the loss of its relished reputation as the credible arbiter of social conscience in the Northern Marianas Community.

It hasn’t been able to use its conceptualization faculty so it understands with clarity its primary role in this community. Yet it claims to be the leading newspaper throughout the Micronesian region. Is it? What grand opportunity to ruin the credibility of the trusted Fourth Estate.

The Story in the Story: There’s the Washington trip turned into boon for mockery by malcontents who never were mainstream journalists in the first place. Which is which, the defense of the NMI’s rights to economic freedom thus the expenses for the trip; or just a shallow fits of frustration over expenditure?

It boggles the mind whatever happened to responsibility, accountability and most importantly, fairness. How could you have missed the train altogether? Well, you were standing at the station so how could you have not seen the arrival and departure of the train of reason and common decency?

I have been associated with the “other” paper for many years. Everything runs smoothly until the emergence of another newspaper. Well, competition is healthy and you can’t force local readership to be stuck with ill-conceived viewpoints or the grand mix of straight news stories with entertainment or the fabrication of quotes, misquotes, shallow assessments of issues such as those we have seen since November of last year. I should know for we have received letters about it but refuse to print them as a matter of courtesy.

The story in the story on the Washington trip is very simple to discern: There’s a need to rebuild a trustworthy relationship with our Mother Country. Speaker Benigno Fitial has started work on this score with the Land of the Rising Sun. The other vital equation to economic revival is on the other side of the Pacific. We can’t chance turning this feud into a biblical warfare like that of Israel and Palestine.

It’s warpedly ironic that the “other” paper has lost its pulse of the true sentiments of the indigenous people. So what’s the point of fueling the total ruination of wealth and jobs creation? We would have seen the total meltdown of the local economy where the victims are the people in the villages. Do you have jobs to ensure gainful employment of more than 5,000 people?

Pot shots that preach joblessness, therefore abject poverty and hopelessness is far from my definition of responsible reporting and reasoned viewpoints for consumption of local readership who expect to be informed and educated by the media. The NMI is part and whole of “America the Beautiful” and we want nothing less than justice so mangled by special interest groups, including your adolescent views. Is this too complex an issue to understand and take to heart? Nothing can be further from the truth! What warped values!

****

Speaker Fitial has bolted out of the usual GOP complacency. The long-term benefits of his efforts will also descend upon the “other” paper when wealth and jobs creation enable the sputtering economy to regain some semblance of real recovery. If everything that Speaker Fitial and Governor Tenorio undertake is turned into negative fodder, don’t you think you have gone overboard? Go ahead and work on your own demise. It’s a matter of “survival of the fittest” where adolescency will take its toll over the long haul. Why the obvious hate campaign against Teno` and Fitial?
