San Vicente Saints' Vince Iglesias makes a strong move to the hoop against Othello's Krog Ogo in Saturday's UBA U25 Island Wide Youth Basketball Tournament matchup held at the Garapan Basketball Court. (Walter Cepeda Sutherland)  The Unified Basketball Association’s Island Wide Youth Basketball Tournament champions will officially be crowned this weekend at the Garapan Basketball Court.

The three-division tournament already concluded its U15 and U17 age groups over the past two weeks and today its nine-team U25 main division will determine which three squads will survive into tomorrow’s semifinals.

The remaining teams include the Runnin’ Rebels, Rollers, Ayuyus, San Vicente Saints, Akkeri, and Saipan 1. Hi-5, Othello, and Saipan 2 were eliminated during last weekend’s opening rounds.

Action resumes at the Garapan court at 4:30pm today with an upper bracket pairing between the Rollers and the Ayuyus.

The winner moves on to face undefeated Runnin’ Rebels in tomorrow’s curtain raiser, while the other team will be paired against Akkeri in a knockout match later today.

At 5:30pm, the Saints clash with Saipan 1 in a lower bracket elimination match; games will run hourly until roughly 8:30pm.

Tomorrow’s matches start at 5:30pm with the upper bracket semifinals where the winner advances to the championship with a twice-to-beat advantage.

The other team must then go through the lone remaining lower bracket contender; organizers are prepared for a deciding finals match, if needed.

The awards presentation for all age divisions is scheduled to take place immediately following the U25 finals.

The five-on-five full court games are played under 16-minute halves.

Docomo Pacific and the UBA, as well as partners Hoopaholics 670 and the 670 Rollers Basketball Club, is sponsoring the event.
