Team from Alaska arrives to inspect CUC equipment
Representatives of Alaska’s Electric Power Systems are on island to conduct a field inventory of all the electric equipment in the Northern Marianas, according to Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Executive Director Timothy P. Villagomez.
This will provide the utilities firm with reserve equipment and maybe locate older power poles for community service projects, he said.
Representatives of the firm will inspect all feeders on Rota, Tinian and Saipan, count all power poles, as well as the take note of the size of transformers and high voltage wires.
But the most important of all is that every customer’s meter number and location will be logged in a computer showing the feeder maps and specific location of the customer.
With a computerized field system for CUC, a customer will be able to call in with a meter number, tell his problem and look on the computer to determine the exact location and the type of equipment even before dispatching the staff to the field.
Since CUC is assigning numbers of the poles to help speed up field operations, the task will also assist the Department of Public Safety in responding to emergency calls since the island until now do not have street names.
