Forty-nine students of Tanapag Elementary School yesterday graduated from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education or D.A.R.E. program, which has been put in place by the Department of Public Safety to combat use of illegal drugs.

The students belonging to the 6th grade classes of Mr. Kimberlee Church and Mr. Ron Snyder finished the eight-week course handled by officers Hambros and Maratita.

During a simple ceremony held at the school grounds, which was attended by Education Commissioner Rita H. Inos and Public Safety Commissioner Charles Ingram, the students received certificates for finishing the D.A.R.E. course. Special awards were given to students who topped the class.

Tanapag Elementary students were the third to receive this course for 1999. Similar sessions were held in San Antonio Elementary School and Koblerville Elementary School earlier this year. The program is implemented in public elementary schools.

Mr. Ingram has commended the students for participating in the program and urged them to learn to say ‘no’ to drugs.

“D.A.R.E. has taught you some skills that you can use the rest of your life not just for your school years. Remember it is easier to stay away from drugs that to get off of drugs,” Mr. Ingram told the students. (Lucy Rosario)
