After a short delay, former Board of Public Lands Chairman Tomas B. Aldan on Friday won unanimous support of the senators for his re-appointment to the policy-making body.

The Senate Committee on Executive Appointment and Governmental Investigations endorsed his nomination after examining his credentials and weighing his abilities to seat in the board.

According to a committee report, members were “convinced that Mr. Aldan has great interest in continuing to serve on this same board for the next four years again. He has proven himself capable and had great achievements in his past term.”

The upper house held a session last Friday to specifically approve the nomination of Mr. Aldan, who was named by Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio to the important body on Nov. 29, nearly five months since the expiration of his previous term.

His confirmation came amid fears he would not get the nod of the nine-member chamber in view of his critical stance against the apparent rush by lawmakers to grant a 15-year lease extension to the Rota Golf Resort and Country Club without reviewing the terms of the initial agreement.

But the Legislature later approved the extension, just months after the term of the former BPL chief ended. Mr. Aldan, president and chief executive officer of Bank of Saipan, left BPL last June 4 after his two-year term expired. He was named to the post by former governor Froilan C. Tenorio.

Mr. Aldan is the sixth nominee of the governor confirmed by the Senate in two days. Others are members of various government board and agencies.
