With the investigators’ disclosure that a “person of interest” has been identified in the case, family members of slain bartender Emerita “Emie” Romero are hoping that the killer will soon be arrested.
Estrellita “Lhet” Relata told Saipan Tribune in an email that they are praying that test results of evidence will come out fast so that someone will be held accountable for her sister’s killing before the 40th day since Romero’s death comes.
Relata said they are still hoping to obtain justice for the murder of their sister.
She thanked the local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, their friends, and to all who expressed condolences and offered prayers.
“Please continue to pray for my sister’s soul and for justice,” Relata said.
Relata and her brother, Eduardo Relata, still want to return to Saipan to continue their work despite being discouraged by parents and family members not to return because of what happened.
Estrellita and Eduardo Relata have no definite schedule for their return as they are still waiting for the release of their advance parole.
The Relatas accompanied Romero’s body aboard Delta Air Lines flight via Japan last Feb. 18.
Last Feb. 24, Department of Public Safety Commissioner Ramon C. Mafnas disclosed that DPS and the FBI are currently investigating activities and events associated with this “person of interest.”
Romero was last seen alive boarding a green or blue tinted sedan around 3am on Feb. 5 near her residence in Garapan. FBI agents found her body two days later during a search in the northernmost building of the former La Fiesta Mall in San Roque.
