San Vicente Elementary School could be $8,000 richer by March 17 if it continues to top the fundraising campaign of McDonald’s Saipan and the Public School System.

The school received the highest number of fundraising coupons on the first week of the promo period from Feb. 25 through March 4.

Ana Olaes, McDonald’s Saipan human resource and marketing manager, disclosed to Saipan Tribune yesterday that the company has already received a total of 24,192 coupons from participating schools during the first week of the fundraiser alone.

McDonald’s Saipan will be giving away a total of $11,000 in cash to winning schools: first prize is $8,000, second prize is $2,000, and third prize is $1,000.

Olaes said that San Vicente topped the first week with a 22.4-percent share of the total coupons turned in.

Coming in second as of yesterday was San Antonio Elementary School, followed by Garapan Elementary School. Also in the Top 5 are William S. Reyes Elementary School and Oleai Elementary School. The next counting will be on Friday.

Olaes said that the promotion’s first week ran smoothly, a sign of the huge success of the campaign that aims to help elementary public schools with their most immediate needs.

Ten elementary public schools on Saipan are taking part in the campaign. Only one has yet to post any coupon from its supporters.

Each elementary school will earn points through purchases made by their students, the students’ parents, and their friends at McDonald’s Saipan. For every dollar spent using a school’s coupon, one point will be credited to that school.

Olaes is optimistic that more coupons will come in in the next few days until the end of the fundraising period on March 17, 2pm. The big winners will be announced on March 21.

Olaes said the company has been getting positive feedback and overwhelming support through letters from community members, thanking McDonald’s for supporting the schoolchildren’s needs.

This tie-up between McDonald’s Saipan and PSS comes as the company celebrates its 19th anniversary this year. A similar fundraiser was held for private schools in 2009.
