Parents, relatives discourage Romero’s 2 siblings from coming back to Saipan

Today marks a month after slain bartender Emerita “Emie” Romero was last seen alive boarding a car in Garapan, but no one has been arrested yet.
As this developed, Saipan Tribune learned that the parents and relatives of Romero in the Philippines have been trying to stop her two siblings, particularly Estrellita Relata, from coming back to Saipan due to what happened.
A relative disclosed that siblings Eduardo and Estrellita Relata are trying to convince their parents and relatives to allow them to come back to Saipan where they have been working for many years.
The Relatas accompanied Romero’s body aboard Delta Air Lines flight via Japan last Feb. 18. Romero’s husband, two daughters, and five other siblings are based in the Philippines.
It is not clear yet when the Relatas are returning to Saipan. Romero’s family, through Estrellita Relata, had asked Saipan Tribune over the weekend about any update in the investigation.
The Department of Public Safety last week did not release to the media any update in their investigation.
The last update was on Feb. 24, 2012 when Public Safety Commissioner Ramon C. Mafnas disclosed that authorities have identified a “person of interest” into the killing of Romero.
Mafnas said that DPS and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are currently investigating the activities and events associated with this “person of interest.”
Romero was last seen alive boarding a green or blue tinted sedan around 3am on Feb. 5 near her residence in Garapan. FBI agents found her body two days later during a search in the northernmost building of the former La Fiesta Mall in San Roque.
The cash reward, including the Crime Stoppers’ $1,000, has now reached $22,000 for any information leading to an arrest in this case.
