Demapan is champ

Joe Demapan, one of the most improved players for SGA, took home the 1998 SGA Championship Cup last Sunday. SGA held their annual party and presentation of awards last Sunday night at the Stanford Resort in San Vicente.

With an outstanding performance and a score of 37 front and 44 back at coral ocean point, he was able to take the early lead on the first day of the tournament with best net score of 71 just 3 strokes away from second place Judge Manibusan.

Continuing his consistent performance and with another outstanding scores of 41 front and 38 back in Laolao Bay, Joe shot a total gross score of 160 for the two days event. His 140 net performance gave him the Championship Title and also the Annual “SGA Perpertual Trophy”.

Along with the above prizes, he won a ceiling fan, cash and a Greg Norman’s T-Shirt.

In other events, last years SGA Champion John Babauta won three out of four closest to the pin contest, two at Coral Ocean Point and one at the Laolao Bay Resort. Ray Diaz won the last closest to the point contest at Laolao Bay hole no.17.

All above winners were given a 14 lbs. turkey and gift item.

In the low put category, Judge Manibusan took the first place with an incredible performance of only 24 putts at Laolao Bay West Course. Judge Manibusan was second place overall behind Joe Demapan for the two day event.

Judge shot 37 front, 43 back at COP and 38 front and 36 even par at the Laolao Bay West Course just two strokes behind Demapan.

Low gross championship was awarded to Joe Camacho with a two day low gross scores of 152. Brian Reyes took second place with a gross score of 159 and Frank Castro third at 162.

Low net winners was awarded to Judge Manibusan first place, Tom Aldan second place and Jess Castro third place. Longest drive at hole no.18 went to “Kamikaze” Joe with a 330 yards performance.

An election of new officers also took place last Sunday night at the banquet. Mr. Norbert Sablan was nominated and succeeded Ray Diaz as the new SGA Club President. SGA congratulates Mr. Norbert Sablan and wish him the best of luck next year.
