A widow has filed a damage suit against Hotel Nikko, seeking compensation for the death of her security guard husband who died days following an assault at the hotel two years ago.

The alleged attackers, Alex A. Camacho and Sydney T. Camacho, were also named defendants.

The lawsuit states that the guard, Bernardo Tique, was beat up after he attempted to make the Camachos leave the hotel’s swimming pool because its use is restricted for guests only.

The Camachos were invited into the hotel by an employee and had been drinking too much liquor, the lawsuit states.

Tique was rendered unconscious by the beating.

He was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center and on to the St. Luke’s Medical Center in the Philippines, where he received treatment for a fractured skull, brain hemorrhage, brain swelling and lacerations, the lawsuit says.

He died on Dec. 10, 1996, several days later after the assault.

The lawsuit said Tique was neither issued security equipment such as a baton, pepper spray or radio, nor was he trained by the hotel for his job.

It said another security guard witnessed the assault.
