DPS reports 2 robbery cases
The Department of Public Safety is asking for public assistance in locating a man who had grabbed the purse of a 20-year-old woman while walking in front of K.K. Gift Shop in Garapan.
The purse-snatching incident occurred on Thanksgiving Day at around 8:30 p.m. The fled the scene on a dark vehicle.
The victim, Bing Meng, who works for Rose Massage Parlor, said that she and her friends are heading east when the man grabbed her purse and ran toward Makaka Beach.
She decribed him as having short hair, stands 5’6″ and wearing a white shirt, black short and sneakers.
Police officers and members of the Technical Response Enforcement Team searched the Garapan area but was unsuccessful in locating the man.
DPS Public Information Officer Rose T. Ada said the case is still being investigated.
In another case, a 28-year-old man from San Antonio was arrested Sunday afternoon after committing robbery.
Sylvano Mers Alfonso is held on a $10,000 cash bail ordered by Associate Judge Timothy Bellas.
Court documents said that at about 1:02 p.m. Sunday a woman flagged down an officer in front of Hibiscus Karaoke and reported a purse-snatching incident.
The victim identified as Yang Zhang said that she was talking with a friend in front of the karaoke when a man approached them from behind, snatched her purse and fled.
An officer who was around the area received the call and stopped Alfonso by Sang Jee Rent-a-Car across from hotel street area.
The officer found the purse with Alfonso. Zhang also identified him as the purse snatcher.
