Twenty students from the CNMI made the best of what’s left of summer vacation by participating in the 14th Yeosu International Youth Festival in South Korea.

The group that participated in the six-day event was composed of students from Northern Marianas College and Saipan Southern High School.

The youth festival hosted 400 youth from around the world who took part in activities such as a mini-Olympics, city tours, water battles, and Korean pop concerts.

Students were housed at the Chonnam National University dorms.

One participant, Mike Alcantara, told Saipan Tribune that the festival “was a great experience.”

“People from the islands were able to make lots of friends from different countries,” he said.

The international youth festival this year welcomed youth from parts of France, China, Malaysia, Nepal, the United States, Japan, Korea, the CNMI, and Russia.

“We all gathered to learn about the city of Yeosu and got to enjoy each other’s company,” Alcantara said.

Students from the islands and members of the band “Flow” also got the opportunity to perform a song and dunce number on stage in front of an international audience.
