PSS optimistic it will fill needed positions for new school year
About 50 applicants have applied for jobs within the CNMI’s Public School System, even as recruitment continues this month, according to the PSS Human Resources Office.
PSS Human Resources director Cindy Deleon Guerrero said she is very optimistic that PSS will meet its areas of need, which, according to her, are primarily in school personnel.
“We continue to accept highly qualified applicants,” she said.
Education Commissioner Dr. Rita Sablan said in a Board of Education meeting last week that PSS needs 29 more teachers for the upcoming school year.
According to the HR office, positions needed are classroom teachers for Kindergarten through fifth grade, middle and high school teachers for English, science, math, technology, career and technical education, and special education teachers, in addition to school counselors and positions in mental health service.
In the board meeting, Sablan said that PSS is happy to see the progress they have made as middle schools and elementary schools are reconfigured for this fall.
“We are happy to see the progress the schools have in terms of moving. All teachers have already been identified and vacancies identified for middle school,” Sablan said.
This school year, San Vicente Elementary school will accommodate students from kindergarten to fifth grade as Dandan Elementary School becomes a new middle school for sixth and eighth graders. The same goes for Koblerville Elementary as San Antonio Elementary will be turned into a middle school as well.
Tanapag Elementary will be reconfigured as a middle school, while Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary will accommodate its students.
“We have made assignments as to who will be the administrators and counselors for middle school, elementary and high school,” Sablan said at the meeting.
Recruitment fairs on Saipan took place on July 17 and 18. The next fair is scheduled for Aug. 7 and 8 at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
For Rota and Tinian, there will be fairs held this Friday at Dr. Rita Inos Junior High School and Tinian Elementary School.
All job fair are scheduled to take place between 9am and 3pm.
