Superior Court associate judge Joseph N. Camacho quashed yesterday the bench warrant he issued against the suspect in a robbery case where the victim, a 65-year-old masseur, was also beaten up.

Assistant attorney general Eileen Wisor recommended quashing the warrant after suspect Joshua Basaliso voluntarily appeared in court with his court-appointed counsel, Antonio Atalig.

Atalig, who substituted for attorney Douglas Cushnie, explained that they failed to attend Monday’s change of plea hearing due to problems with the “flow of information.”

Camacho set the new change of plea hearing for Thursday, March 1, at 1:30pm.

Camacho issued the bench warrant on Monday after Basaliso and his lawyer failed to appear at the scheduled change of plea hearing.

Basaliso inked a plea agreement with the government in October 2011. Under the agreement, he will plead guilty to assault and battery and the OAG will recommend a sentence of time served.

Basaliso testified for the government in the trial of his cousin and co-defendant, Nestor C. Taitano. He admitted beating up and taking the wallet of Chinese national Guoxi Liang in San Antonio on April 2, 2011. Taitano was acquitted in the case.
