Let Gov. Inos do his job

Share

We’re on the road to economic recovery, and Public Law 18-56 is part of that recovery. Gov. Inos realizes that and that’s why he’s doing his best to make the casino industry possible and save our retirees from financial doom.

Glen Hunter’s letter gives the governor an unkind lecture about the right way to run the Commonwealth. Glen goes into some detail about his own legal theories of why Public Law 18-56 is legally inappropriate. And we should trust Glen’s opinion, because as we all know, Glen is a highly experienced lawyer and a constitutional scholar.

No, wait. He’s not. He never set foot in law school. And unlike Gov. Inos, Glen didn’t even go to college. So what’s he doing lecturing us about legal matters, when the governor’s legal counsel has already cleared the issues with House Bill 18-195, which became Public Law 18-56?

Glen promises us a vote “in just a matter of four short months.” Does he have some special, shorter months that we don’t know about? Is this new arithmetic? Over here in reality, a month is a pretty long time, and four months is much too long to wait for a decision on reviving the CNMI’s economy. That’s why executive decisions are made by the executive and not by the electorate. As much as it hurts Glen’s fragile ego to hear it, Gov. Inos and the Legislature don’t have to check with Glen before fulfilling their duties to raise money for the Commonwealth and save our retirees.

Glen, your glory days, if there ever were any, are well over. You can’t run on Tina’s coattails anymore. And you don’t impress anyone by trying to lecture the governor about things that you have no idea about, when you have absolutely no experience or education in the fields of law or government.

Let Gov. Inos do his job. Let retirees regain financial security. Let Public Law 18-56 do what it is intended to do. Let Glen Hunter out to pasture.
