OPA files 41 criminal charges vs ex-Aging chief Mondala
The Office of the Public Auditor filed Monday in Superior Court an information charging former Office on Aging director Rose DLG. Mondala with 41 criminal charges.
OPA legal counsel George L. Hasselback charged Mondala with 22 counts of forgery; six counts of misconduct in public office; eight counts of use of public supplies, time, and personnel for campaign activities; two counts of use of public position to obtain benefits for business or social acquaintances; one count of theft of services; one count of theft; and one count of use of office, staff, or employees of a public office for personal benefit.
The 69-year-old Mondala, through her lawyer, is expected to enter a not guilty plea at her arraignment on Monday, July 21, at 9am.
The original arraignment date of July 7, 2014, was reset to July 14 and continued again to July 21 for various reasons.
OPA accused Mondala of using the Aging Office’s funds and materials for the needs of the Covenant Party during the 2009 elections and to build a fence at her house in Kagman.
Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo released Mondala on a $7,500 unsecured or appearance bond during the defendant’s initial appearance last June 27.
OPA investigator Juanette F. David-Atalig stated in her report that the investigation began in September 2009 when their office received a complaint that then-Office on Aging director Mondala was using the office’s kitchen and staff to prepare food for the Covenant Party’s political rally.
