USP4GG urges Pinoys to join National Day of Action

The US Pinoys for Good Governance is urging all Filipinos in the CNMI and Guam to join the National Day of Action today, July 15, to call on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and President Barack Obama to grant the Temporary Protected Status designation for the Philippines.

“ This is the last TPS barrage that we will do,” said Loida Nicolas Lewis, national chair of the US Pinoys for Good Governance. “ We are opening up a new avenue of remittances to the Philippines because those granted Temporary Protected Status will be given work authorization.”

“ I encourage all Filipinos in the CNMI and Guam to show and express your support for the approval of TPS by calling the Department of Homeland Security and the White House,” said Dr. Celia Lamkin, chairperson of USP4GG Marianas chapter for CNMI and Guam.

Lewis and Lamkin are urging Filipinos in the CNMI and Guam to call the Department of Homeland Security comment line at 1-202-282-8495 and the White House comment line at 1-202-456-1111 on July 15 with the following message: “Temporary Protected Status for the Philippines must be designated. I urge the Department of Homeland Security (if calling DHS) President Obama (if calling The White House) that full TPS be designated for the Philippines. My name is (say your name) from (say city and state). Thank you!”

If full Temporary Protected Status is approved for the Philippines, all Filipinos in the United States, the CNMI, and Guam will be able to apply. However, if only partial TPS is granted, only Filipinos from areas in the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda will be qualified to apply provided the requirements are met.

Lamkin said that USP4GG Marianas chapter will be providing free calls and assistance to Filipinos at the Minatchom Atdao Pavilion in Susupe, Saipan, today, July 15, from 4pm to 7pm.

Filipinos in the CNMI are also advised to be careful of individuals and agencies who are collecting fees to process TPS or to legalize them because TPS has not been approved yet. (USP4GG)
