The Department of Public Safety suspended yesterday afternoon the search for the two missing Japanese sisters, with still no trace of them.

DPS Boating Safety Section officers dived at Wing Beach until late afternoon yesterday, hoping to find sisters Natsuki Yamada, 33, and Chinatsu Yamada, 26.

The Yamada sisters are believed to have gone night swimming at Wing Beach on June 29 up to the early morning of June 30.

DPS spokesman Travis Hurst said a determination was made to suspend the search after an exhaustive effort that spanned days. Hurst said DPS has expended a great deal of resources in the search for the two.

Hurst assured, though, that the investigation into the disappearance of the Yamada sisters is still ongoing.

“DPS is going to be working diligently in finding the answers necessary to bring a resolution to this case,” he said.

Hurst said DPS would like to thank the CNMI Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Commonwealth Ports Authority for their assistance in the search.

The Yamada sisters arrived on Saipan last June 28. They were supposed to go back to Japan on June 30. That day, June 30, at 12:08pm, the car they rented was recovered at Wing Beach, which is near the Mariana Resort and Spa where the two stayed.
